YAY!!! The good Lord pulled through on the promise I made Konnor on Friday - which was that he would be getting some mail very soon. Konnor finally got the mail he has been waiting for for ELEVEN weeks now! Uncle Milton, over at National Geographic Kids, sent him the ants he has been waiting for to put in his Ant Colony Farm Garret gave him for his birthday. We had to ORDER the ants - yes, you got it, I paid (or actually Garret gave us the money) for ANTS. They arrived in a little test tube - with a "Caution, open with care. Ants WILL bite!" sign on it. 25-30 of them - all over a 1/4 inch in length. Sanjog kept asking why we didn't just go find our own ants - well, #1 b/c ants here bite like crazy, I have no desire to go seek them out and take them home and #2, the actual directions say the ants must be at least 1/4 inch in length! Ha! Like I would ever find more than 2 of those on any given day. These were well worth the $4! The idea is for the ants to make tunnels in the gel - as if they would in the dirt - so kids can see them. Unfortunately, our ants are taking awhile to come to life. Directions say they can be lazy for the first couple of days - but I'm pretty sure about half of ours are dead already. I got them out of the mail in due time - right away actually - and did everything as the directions ordered. They are stuffed away up in the cupboard in the dark to begin tunneling - I hope Uncle Milton pulls through over the next two weeks while we are gone so Konnor isn't disappointed! Ants are expected to live 1-3 months in there, I suppose I better rush deliver our 2nd set since it took 11 weeks for the first :)
Now, how many of you can say you ever got First Class Mail from Uncle Milton?!
Thanks, Uncle Milton! And Garret too!
